At Bitchstix, we care about people, and that is one of the reasons why we chose our mission to support survivors of Domestic abuse and sexual assault.
Domestic abuse is a harsh reality that affects individuals of all genders, races, and economic backgrounds. It’s not something that only “happens to someone else.” It can touch anyone, anywhere, and we’re here to raise awareness and support survivors.
Everyone Can Be Affected
In the U.S., over 10 million people experience intimate partner violence each year (dolanzimmerman.com). Abuse isn’t just physical—it can be emotional, psychological, or controlling. And it doesn’t care if you’re wealthy, middle class, or living paycheck to paycheck. People from all walks of life experience it, and understanding that is key to creating support that’s truly inclusive.
Race and Domestic Abuse
Abuse affects all communities, but some are disproportionately impacted. Black individuals report the highest rates of domestic violence (9.2%), followed by Hispanic individuals (8.6%), American Indian/Alaska Native (8.2%), and non-Hispanic whites (5.7%) (cawc.org). Systemic barriers like limited access to resources can make it even harder for some survivors to get help (iwpr.org).
Gender Isn’t a Shield
While women are often disproportionately affected by severe abuse, men also experience domestic violence—sometimes in silence. Around 40% of Black men report experiencing intimate partner violence (lifewire.org). Recognizing male survivors is vital for a truly inclusive approach.
A Call to Action
Domestic abuse is complex and widespread, but together, we can make a difference. Here’s how:

- Support Survivors: Make resources available to everyone, no matter their background.
